Alyson Greenfield: Music

School

(Alyson Greenfield)
Do you remember school? I do. What was it like for you? When I was in the fourth grade someone called me the human Barbie. They thought I was just that fragile and I thought it was alarming. It hurt me, it irked me, I didn't know what to do. You know it hurt me, it irked me, so now I'm telling you. When I was in the fourth grade my brother and I dressed up for Halloween. He was a Cool Dude, I was a Punk Rocker. He had his hair slicked, I wore a skirt of leather. And then we went to school, some kid said to me, "Hey, you look like a hooker! You do!" That hurt me it irked me. I didn't know what that was then. It hurt me, it irked me. I had hardly gotten out of the playpen. Yeah. When I was in the seventh grade, you should've seen me. I was so skinny. I was a cheerleader, I didn't know better. I was a cheerleader. I even had a sweater. I yelled for all the boys as they ran down the court. I said to my friends, "Cheerleading is a sport!" Well it hurt me, it irked me, cuz cheerleading was not cool at my school. It hurt me, it irked me. I didn't know, what to do. It hurt me, it irked me, so now I'm telling you. Are you listening?
