Audicred Review - January 30, 2011

Audiocred recently gave a great review to my new EP "Only Silence" saying,"Her latest offering, a solid but too-short EP, Only Silence, finally showcases this musical evolution and new choice of timbres. Much in the same way that Sufjan Stevens, in The Age of Adz, finally found a balance between his past acoustic styles and electronic experimentations, Greenfield seems to be slowly but surely establishing an appealing identity with this new, more modern set of tones.." Check out the entire review here: http://www.audiocred.com/2011/01/alyson-greenfield-only-silence/

Women's Radio "12 Days of Christmas" - December 24, 2010

I was honored when Women's Radio asked me to contribute a Top 10 Singer/Songwriter Playlist for their "12 Days of Christmas" project. Here's an excerpt from the article and info about my Top 10:

“Top 10 lists are difficult for me. I'm not really into rating things and saying what is better than what. I just know what I love and what moves me. This list includes songs that first moved me when I was in elementary school and showed me how powerful songwriting could be (Indigo Girls, John Lennon); songs/songwriters that have continued to astound and soothe me with their sonic and lyrical truths (Tori Amos, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Bjork, Thom Yorke); and songs/songwriters I have discovered more recently in life (Sufjan Stevens, Jesca Hoop) that, like others on the list, transport me wholly into the space of the song itself. Every one of these songs reminds me to try and push further into unknown, beautiful, and truthful territory as a songwriter myself.”

Gothamist - December 11, 2010

Even though all nerdy things including "a skinny white girl playing Gangsta's Paradise on a glockenspiel" makes GOTHAMIST want to "punch things" they were won over by the entire show (Me, Math the Band, MC Frontalot) because they say "The players realized that behind the fashion and the obscure shout-outs is that small-but-important matter of the actual music" WOW. Isn't this what it's about?

Check out the whole review where they mention my "adorable raps" here:

Beyond Race Magazine CMJ Review - December 11, 2010

Check out this sweet review of the Beyond Race Magazine CMJ show I played!

Here's an excerpt:
"The first thing one notices about Greenfield’s performance is that the stage is covered in instruments and gadgets, but only one person to play them....though she’d just followed several really intense high energy acts, she maintained the crowd’s attention, as she did everything from electronic tracks, some acoustic, covering 90s hip-hop classic 'Gangsta’s Paradise' on a Glockenspiel to rapping over nothing but beat-boxing. The most remarkable part of this for anyone who has never seen her is how well she can do all of this. When Greenfield informed the soundman she needed to rap for the crowd before her set was done and asking for 1 more minute—the crowd stopped what ever they were doing and stared as she broke into 'Border Patrol,' and promptly walked off having blown the minds of many of those who hadn’t come to see her."
